In 1960, the founder of Marantz, Saul B. Marantz, created a power amplifier called the Model 9. It has a meter at the center of the front metal panel. Before the Model 9, it was common practice to design amplifiers with vacuum tubes and other parts on a horizontal platform, so this amplifier caused a sensation. Today, after 40 years, we think it is natural for power amplifiers to have front panels.
Marantz has made unprecedented advances that have led the way for subsequent generations. In fact, many Marantz products have become the standards for their category. For example, the meter at the center of the front panel, as presented by the Model 9, is now called a Center-Meter and is still applied in new products. This feature has become a symbol of the Marantz spirit and our passion for designing innovative products.
